Take full advantage of post-Easter sales by shopping for next year’s Easter after Easer Sunday. There are so many decorations, gifts, ornaments and gift wrap options you can often snap up on after Easter. We recommend having a couple of empty storage tubs ready to place these bargains into.

Repurposing on a Budget

Repurposing other seasonal decorations is not only the perfect way to stay under budget at Easter, it’s also incredibly fun and so easy! With just a few simple steps overall, you can create one-of-a-kind Easter décor for every space.

The decorating pieces we love to repurpose the most include wreaths, garlands, tableware, and trees. And you’ll see why in just a moment!

Wreaths and garlands – the most versatile decorating pieces we can think of! So, to stay under budget at Easter, pull out that wreath you put away after Christmas. Grab all the Christmas and Easter picks, sprays, florals and ribbons on hand to create a DIY Easter Wreath and garland. By following our simple decorating guru’s tips and tricks, it’s so much fun to turn your Christmas wreath and garlands into eggciting Easter décor! After you have a crack at these projects, we’re sure you’ll also agree these are the best decorations to repurpose.

Use the same tablewear from prior celebrations (like Christmas and birthdays) but add an Easter-y feel to them. Spray some foam eggs to match your theme and place on top of the plates; scatter little festive friends you already have around the table; and re-use nametags from Christmastime to determine place settings. Finish the table by placing a garland or DIY centrepiece (such as our Easter Birdhouse, or a fresh tray filled with Easter flowers and embellishments) in the middle.

As much as we love these ideas (and are sure your guests will too), sometimes we understand you may need to buy extra decorations which can add up. So, another of our favourite budget-friendly centrepiece ideas for your Easter feast table includes a sweet treat charcuterie board. Save money by baking some of these treats yourself, or snapping up some of your favourite sweets during the obligatory pre-Easter sales. Place this delectable piece in the middle, alongside some bunnies, an Easter tree, or any other decorations you have, for an easy way to stay under budget at Easter (and keep your guests bellies full).

To complete your table and make it table feel a little more eggstra, hang Easter decorations, such as mini wreaths, plush, or soft faux eggs, off the backs of each guests’ chair.

Despite being officially named ‘Christmas tree’, there’s no constraint to reserving them for Christmastime only. We’ve noticed a surprisingly increasing trend in households establishing the tradition of repurposing the Christmas tree for occasions throughout the year. We don’t blame them, taking it down and reassembling trees are a tedious task, especially with multiple! Leaving it up and altering the decorations based on the occasion is definitely the way to go.

Make especially light work of all your Easter decorating by mustering up the kids, your partner, or even siblings to help your vision become a reality (and secretly entice their celebratory spirit too).

Gift Wrapping

Affordable gift wrapping definitely doesn’t mean buying an excessive amount of paper, only for it to be disposed of in a couple of weeks. Beyond gift bags and paper, there are numerous ways to wrap gifts within a budget.

Some of our handy tips include:

  • Use any fabric offcuts, or cut an old table cloth or tea towel to the size of the gift and wrap as you would with paper.
  • Repurpose your children’s Easter Hunt Buckets by filling with gifts and covering with materials you have on hand.
  • For smaller gifts, we recommend placing inside empty glass or plastic jars. Additionally, if you’re feeling especially crafty, paint the insides of the jars so they are no longer transparent to add an element of surprise.
  • Gather a selection of coloured cardboard boxes. They don’t have to contain an Easter motif or pattern, and are readily available at discount stores. But before you go and spend money, make sure you firstly search for cardboard gift boxes around your home.
  • Likewise with gift boxes, you may already have a stash of gift bags waiting to be used. This option works just as well!

Other than finding affordable gifts and décor options, there is still enough time to prepare and stay relaxed this Easter. Although these tips are specific to staying under budget at Easter, the principle remains the same for every occasion.
