Easter Craft and Activities for All the Family

Extra time at home this Easter means more valuable time with the family! To keep busy hands and minds occupied, we have put together some easy Easter craft ideas to entertain your brood.

If your home is anything like mine, you would have no doubt accumulated an interesting range of bits and bobs leftover from Christmas, New Year’s festivities, birthdays and everything in between. Items like ribbons, paper, extra buttons, beads and shells are all worthwhile talent when it comes to making Easter craft, especially for the kids. In my home, dabbling in a bit of craft at Easter also helps to clear out the cupboards too! And at a time where things are running a little out of the ordinary this year, art and craft activities have been proven to help relax the mind, so do yourself and your family a favour and focus on something a little more positive for a while.

Easter craft is great for enhancing creativity, encouraging team work and, of course, bringing more Easter magic to the home. All that is required is some imagination and a few simple craft pieces (your garden can full of Easter craft treasures too).

To help get you started, we have put together some easy-to-do Easter craft pieces, using basic tools and accessories. What’s great is most of these Easter craft masterpieces can be used year-round as well.

#1 Upcycled Easter tins

Nobody features more prominently than Peter Rabbit at Easter time. It would simply be remiss not to have this little guy featured in our number one Easter craft idea.

For a larger variety, this cute Easter craft bunny tin can be made from old baby formula tins. If you don’t have formula tins on hand, baked beans or spaghetti tins (or anything similar) make perfect, smaller Easter bunny tins.

How to make an Easter craft bunny tin:

  1. Give the tins a good rinse and a wash and let dry
  2. Coat them in a paint or spray paint of your liking (or whatever colour you have on hand). We think that white works well for Easter Bunnies but let your creativity shine.
  3. Cut out rabbit ears, rabbit feet and a nose from cardboard or felt.
  4. Next, colour the inside pieces of the feet and ears or you could use contrasting paper/felt and instead cut them out and stick them down on top of the base pieces.
  5. Attach the completed pieces to the tin using a hot glue gun. Alternatively, use some double-sided tape or wood glue to stick them down.
  6. Add a fluffy tail to the back with one to three cotton balls clumped together, depending on the size of the tin used
  7. Add some googly eyes. If you don’t have googly eyes as part of your Easter craft arsenal, just make eyes from cardboard or paper instead.
  8. Don’t forget to draw a cute little nose and your Easter Bunny tin is complete. You could use them as planters, stationery holders or anything else that you can imagine. Easter egg storage perhaps 😉

If you want to use your Easter craft bunny tin as a planter, like in the image we have shared below, we recommend lining it first with some foil (or sealant if you have it) to save the tin rusting too quickly.

#2 Easter craft card or poster

For lovers of paint and getting messy (we understand that we have just described pretty much every kid we know!), a great Easter craft activity is to replicate a gorgeous Easter bunny print like these ones.

Make them into a poster to hang and admire. Or you might like to make a few versions and send them out to those loved ones who can’t be together with you this Easter.

#3 Pipe cleaner dolls

These pipe cleaner dolls are not your run-of-the-mill Easter craft, but we couldn’t go past adding them to our Easter craft list as they are just too cute. They are colourful and fun. And for the minimal amount of effort, and the very basic pieces involved (wool, beads and pipe cleaners), you can’t go wrong.

#4 Easter dreams and wishes tree

In the present environment, it would be great if we were all granted with a wish or two. This Easter craft wishing tree is a perfect place to host your Easter wishes, dreams and just favourite bits of Easter. Write a wish on a card and hang it from the tree. Scribe your favourite Easter memories. Create some Easter characters (like the pipe cleaner dolls) to decorate your tree.

Ideas for making an Easter craft dreams and wishes tree:

Idea one

  1. Wrap some twigs from the garden in colourful wool or twine until they are completely covered
  2. Gather the pieces together and put them into a vase (or large mason jar) to hold them in place. Alternatively wrap them together with the wool or twine to make a bunch
  3. You can make a stand for the wishing tree by bending pieces of wire and wrapping those up at the bottom too

Idea two

  1. Cover some twigs with spray paint
  2. Make a base to hold the twigs – a jar filled with sand or rocks will do the trick nicely
  3. Add Easter craft pieces or your favourite Easter décor to the tree to complete your look

#6 Easter craft windmills

As a child, I remember falling in love with these paper windmills. And as an adult, I still adore the twirling paper marvels. Windmills are perfect Easter craft ideas as they can be used as décor in the home or as something for the kids to entertain themselves with – and that’s a win-win!
